Taylor Peed is the lone senior on the Covenant girls' basketball team, Coach Doug Smethurst says she's exactly what a veteran player is supposed to be.
"She is consistent, we know what we're gonna get every single day with Taylor," he said. "She's a great teammate, she's positive, she's steady. The girls look to her in a lot of ways just for leadership and for the great example that she sets."
"When I see something that they're doing," said Taylor. "I try to help them out and just try to encourage them more than anything."
Besides being a leader, Taylor says defense is her biggest strength.
"I just tell myself they're not allowed to get the ball," said Taylor. "If they get the ball they're not allowed to get near that basket."
Taylor also coaches Upward Basketball, a 5th and 6th grade girls team, at a local church and says it's been a rewarding experience.
"Just being with the girls and teaching them how to do things. I don't know, just feeling like I can help somebody else play the sport that I love."
Taylor also plays shortstop for the Eagles' softball team and is enrolled in honors courses where she has a 3.9 GPA. She plans to attend Liberty University next fall and major in criminal justice.
