Despite its 29-24 loss at NC State this past Saturday, Virginia still can take several positive things away from its performance in Raleigh. Mikell Simpson came back from his breakout performance at Maryland for another solid night, gaining 116 all purpose yards and scoring two touchdowns. Simpson rushed for 81 yards and a score, and also caught four passes for 35 yards and another touchdown.
Cary Koch emerged as another wide receiver threat for the Cavaliers. Koch had three receptions for 28 yards, including his first touchdown reception as Cavalier, giving Jameel Sewell another weapon.
As for Sewell, who left the game in the fourth quarter with severe leg cramps, he is expected to be fine for this Saturday's game.
On the defensive side of the ball, Ras-I Dowling continues to improve. The freshman had his first career interception, along with seven tackles and five pass break ups.
