The Cavalier Men's Basketball Team hit 16 three pointers, 12 in the first half, and stormed to a 94-52 win over Northwestern in the ACC/ Big Ten Challenge. Virginia's record improves to 6-1 on the season.
Virginia came out firing tonight, as eight of its first nine baskets came via the three pointer, and they used runs of 17-4 and 21-8 to bury the Wildcats early. The Cavaliers went into halftime with a 54-29 lead.
Mamadi Diane led Virginia with 22 points, and pulled down seven rebounds. Calvin Baker added 16 points, and had a stellar night from the floor. The sophomore guard shot 6-for-6 from the field, including 4-for-4 from three point range. Sean Singletary was the only other Cavalier in double figures with 14 points, and he quietly netted a double-double by adding ten assists.
With the win, the Cavaliers are now 20-1 at home since the opening of John Paul Jones Arena, where they have won 12 in a row. They improve to 5-3 in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Virginia will take the court for action next Wednesday, as it welcomes Syracuse to John Paul Jones Arena.
