Cavs Fall to Orange, 70-68

The Cavalier men's basketball team fell to Syracuse Wednesday night, 70-68. It's just the men's second loss inside John Paul Jones Arena.
The Cavaliers lead by six at the break, but they shot only 28 percent from the paint during the second half. Syracuse held UVa to just three points during a six minute span, giving the Orange a seven point lead with a little more than 10 minutes left in the game. Uva trailed by three with 1.2 second left to play. Singletary was fouled before he could get off a 3-pointer.
Before the game, Singletary complained of swollen tonsils and a fever. The senior shot only 30 percent Wednesday night. After the game, coach Dave Leitao remarked on Singletary's performance, “He, from start to finish, didn’t really have any kind of game rhythm. It affected him in a lot of different ways. When his team is down he gets more inspired, and he tries to inspire the other guys, especially during timeouts. I would like to have gotten him in and out a little more, but the situation didn’t really present itself. He’s not balanced. Whether it was illness or fatigue, he didn’t have his rhythm all day today. But there’s nothing that he can do that can draw criticism from me. He’s done far more than anybody could ever imagine, and will do much more before his career is over. When he has a night that’s less than perfect, the last thing any of us need to do is throw criticism his way.”

The Cavaliers continue their six-game homestand Friday night when they host Longwood.
