Adrian Joseph scored 19 points, while freshman Mike Scott added 15, as the Cavalier Men's Basketball Team topped Hampton, 79-65, at John Paul Jones Arena. With the win, Virginia improves to 8-2 on the season.

Virginia had some trouble getting started, as Hampton led for most of the first ten minutes of the game. The two teams traded buckets for much of the half, and the Wahoos were able to build a 36-32 lead heading into halftime.

The Cavaliers looked much better in the second half, though still had some moments of sloppiness. Sean Singletary was held to 12 points, and had to hit a three pointer with just over a minute to play in the game to keep his consecutive double digit scoring streak alive. Virginia outscored the Pirates by ten in the second half to go on for the 79-65 victory.

Joseph clearly had the hot hand of the evening, at one point hitting three straight three pointers to help the Cavaliers pull away in the second half. He finished the night 7-11 from the floor, including 4-7 from beyond the arc. As for the freshman Scott, who made his first career start, he was 6-8 from the field, and was a reliable 3-3 from the foul line. Scott also added six rebounds, four of which were offensive.

Jerome Meyinsse filled the void of the injured Lars Mikalauskus, Ryan Pettinella, and Tunji Soroye underneath. The sophomore scored nine points, while pulling down nine rebounds as well.

Hampton's Vincent Simpson led all scorers with 22 points in the Pirates' losing cause, connecting on six of his eleven three point attempts. Hampton falls to 5-5 on the year.

The Cavaliers return to action on Saturday as they host Elon at John Paul Jones Arena.
