The Cavalier women's basketball team completed the season sweep against their in-state rivals Sunday with a 62-53 win against the Hokies. The Cavaliers improve to 7-3 in the ACC, while the Hokies fall to 1-10.
The Cavs had some trouble in the first half. They did not make a field goal in the final nine minutes of the opening half. After a 15-0 run by the Hokies, Virginia Tech led by seven at half. But the Cavs came out firing after intermission. Paulisha Kellum hit back-to-back three pointer to tied the game at 36.
Sharnee Zoll notched her first career double-double on Sunday. She dished out 11 assists, moving her to within five of Dawn Staley's all-time ACC and UVa record. Zoll averages more than five assists per game, so there is a good chance she will hit the record when the Cavs return home on Thursday to host Clemson.
Monica Wright led all scorers with 21 points. Lyndra Littles followed with 15 and Zoll with 12 points. Former Charlottesville High School star Andrea Barbour did not play in Sunday's contest due to suspension. She missed her third straight game.
The Cavs return to action on Thursday when they host Clemson.
