On January 25, CBS19 reported that defensive end Jeffrey Fitzgerald was not returning to the Cavalier football team. Today, the Associated Press has reported that UVa has confirmed that Fitzgerald is not enrolled at Virginia for the spring semester.
Fitzgerald joins Jameel Sewell and Chris Cook as Virginia players who were looked at as the future of the program who are not enrolled this spring at the school. He was set to become the face of a defense that was looking to respond after the departure of Chris Long.
The two year starter netted 11.5 tackles for loss and seven sacks last season during his sophormore campaign.
No word on Fitzgerald's chances of returning for the fall semester, but if he in fact does not, the Cavaliers will be without 14 starters from the Gator Bowl depth chart. We will keep you updated on this situation as more information becomes available.
