Dan Grovatt drove in two runs as part of a five run first inning, but it was not enough, as the Virginia baseball team fell to George Washington, 17-5. The loss snaps the Cavaliers' 18 game home winning streak, and drops them to 6-1 on their current 12 game homestand.

After the Colonials scored in the top of the first, Virginia looked solid, responding for five runs in the bottom of the inning. Grovatt's two run single put Virginia up 3-1, and Ryan Smith and John Barr also drove in runs.

The walls caved in at that point for Virginia, which watched George Washington put up 16 unanswered runs, including an eight run eighth inning. Gavin Swanson led the Colonials at the plate, going 2-4 with four RBI.

Virginia returns to action on Friday, as the Wahoos open up a three game series with Virginia Tech. The Cavaliers are 5-4 in the ACC, while the Hokies continue to search for their first conference win at 0-9. The series gets underway on Friday evening at 6:00.
