Junior forward/center Laurynas Mikalauskas is scheduled to undergo surgery on his left shoulder on Friday. The operation will stabilize the shoulder, after he suffered an injury during this past season.
Mikalauskas missed 13 games in the middle of the season due to the injury, and returned for the final eleven contests, posting double figures in scoring in six of them. He provides an unmatched source of energy on the court, and will be looked to in 2008-2009 to be a reliable man in the post.
The junior will undergo rehabilitation following the operation, and will not return to full contact basketball for at least five months.
Mikalauskas and his teammates finished the season 17-16, losing in the semifinals of the College Basketball Invitational to Bradley.
