Somdev Devvarman extended his school record singles winning streak to 26 matches, as the Virginia men's tennis team topped NC State, 5-2. The win improves the Cavaliers record to 24-0 with one match remaining in the regular season.
With the victory, Virginia clinches the ACC regular season championship, and will look for its first undefeated season since 1920 on Sunday, as Wake Forest visits Snyder Tennis Center. The Cavaliers are 10-0 in ACC play, and 2008 marks the fifth straight year that Virginia has celebrated a regular season championship.
As for Devvarman, the defending national champion teamed up with Treat Huey to win the doubles competition to get Virginia on the board first, then followed that by beating James McGee in straight sets. Devvarman is 33-1 on the season in singles matches, and is ranked number one in the country. Meanwhile, the doubles tandem of Devvarman and Huey also ranks as the best in the nation.
Virginia's regular season finale with Wake Forest will be Sunday at 1:00.
