The Virginia baseball team was unable to hold an early lead, and a late comeback attempt fell short, as Georgia Tech topped the Cavaliers, 9-7, in the series finale on Saturday. The loss drops Virginia to the sixth seed for next week's ACC Tournament.

Jacob Thompson got the start for Virginia, lasting 4.1 innings, and giving up four earned runs on six hits while striking out eight. He took the loss, falling to 5-4 on the season, as the Cavs fall to 36-19, 15-15 in the ACC.

The Yellow Jackets were led by Tony Plagman, who went 5-for-5 at the plate with three runs and two RBI. Georgia Tech pounded out 16 hits on the day, and a four run fifth put them in front for good. Dan Grovatt went 3-for-5 with two doubles and three RBI. Virginia posted three runs in the seventh and one in the ninth to pull the score to within two runs, but fell short.

The Cavaliers will be the sixth seed in the ACC Tournament, and will begin with North Carolina in their first game. More on the ACC Tournament can be found throughout the week.
