The Cavalier baseball team departed for Jacksonville today, as they are one of eight teams in the 2008 ACC Tournament. Virginia enters as the sixth seed with a 15-15 conference record, and will face some of the country's best teams this week.
Once again, the ACC Tournament will consist of dividing the eight teams into two divisions. Division A is made up of top seeded Miami, NC State (4), Georgia Tech (5), and Clemson (8). Division B consists of Florida State (2), North Carolina (3), Virginia (6), and Wake Forest (7). Teams will play division counterparts once, guaranteeing each club at least three games throughout the course of the tournament. The winner of each division will meet for the ACC Title on Sunday. Last season, North Carolina topped Wake Forest in the conference championship game.
Virginia will open up with North Carolina on Wednesday at 8:00pm. The Tar Heels took two of three from the Wahoos earlier this month. Brian O'Connor will give the ball to Andrew Carraway for the start on the mound, but has not determined a pitching rotation after that.
The Cavaliers have Thursday off, before a 5:00pm battle on Friday against Florida State. The Seminoles swept Virginia in the regular season, and won the Atlantic Division. The Wahoos meet Wake Forest in their third game at 8:00 on Saturday, a team they took two of three from earlier this season.
