Somdev Devvarman returned to Charlottesville on Tuesday night, after winning his second straight NCAA singles championship on Monday. Devvarman arrived at Charlottesville-Albemarle Regional Airport, and CBS19 was there to greet him, as J.W. Stehle caught up with the champion.
Devvarman topped Tennessee's J.P. Smith, 6-3, 6-2, on Monday evening, to win his second straight national championship, and end his career on a school record 36 match winning streak. He wraps up his senior season with a 44-1 singles record, and is 88-6 during the course of the last two seasons. The senior is just the 13th player to win back-to-back titles in singles, and only the fourth to do so in the last 50 years. He is also just the third player in history to win both the indoor and outdoor national titles in the same season.
Devvarman will now take a couple weeks off before taking to court for several tournaments, and hopes to find himself on the pro circuit in the near future. Click on the above video link to view J.W Stehle's interview with Somdev Devvarman.
