Just because it isn't basketball season does not mean Dave Leitao gets time off. The Cavaliers head men's basketball coach has been traveling, helping players prepare for the future, and looking ahead to the upcoming season as well.
Leitao led Virginia to a 17-16 record in his third year as head coach, including a berth in the College Basketball Invitational. He has compiled a 53-42 record in his three years in Wahoo Nation, and will look to build a solid roster for the 2008-2009 season.
In addition to recruiting and trying to rebuild a team that underachieved in the minds of many last season, Leitao is also helping a key piece to the puzzle from last season prepare for the future. Sean Singletary will discover his immediate pro future next Thursday at the NBA Draft in New York City. Leitao is not quite sure what the former guard plans to do during the draft, but feels he should spend the time with his family in Philadelphia.
Leitao also has done some traveling, as he was one of six coaches to go to the Persian Gulf at the beginning of the month to talk to troops about basketball. It was an experience he said has changed his outlook and made him feel more informed.
