Shot putter Adam Nelson has his eyes on this weekend's Olympic Track and Field Trials, but it does not stop there. The recent UVa graduate student and world class athlete has set his sights on Olympic gold, and the first step to reaching that goal will take place in Eugene, Oregon, this weekend.
Nelson currently has the number one mark in the world with a throw of 22.12 meters, which he accomplished back on June 7 at the very same venue he will be competing at this weekend. The top mark is not the only solid throw that Nelson has had this season, as he holds four of the top 17 shot puts world wide this year.
Qualifying for the shot put in the 2008 Olympic Track and Field Trials will be held on Friday, with the finals being held this Saturday. The top three finishers will represent the United States in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, which begin August 8.
