Senior quarterback Scott Deke addressed the media during Meet the Team Day on Sunday with an announcement. The senior stated that the three players in the hunt for the starting quarterback job were not going to be available for interviews, and went on to say that until they perform in a game, it should remain that way.
Deke is battling with Marc Verica and Peter Lalich to gain the starting quarterback position. Lalich saw time in eight games last season, throwing for two touchdowns and one interceptions. Deke appeared in one game, and returned for his fifth year this season. All three quarterback candidates had what Al Groh calls a successful spring game.
As far as the interviews go, it may go longer than just this past weekend. No quarterback offered comments following Saturday's open practice, and interview requests for next week have been denied. Groh has said on several occasions that it may take some playing time in games before the team can determine who should be the starting quarterback.
