The Cavalier football team continues to prepare for its conference opener, which will kickoff on Saturday at noon at Duke. Wallace Wade Stadium is a place where Virginia has not lost since 1994, and the Wahoos have also have overall success against the Blue Devils in recent years.
Virginia has won the last eight meetings between the two teams, including last year's 24-13 victory at Scott Stadium, which also served as both teams' conference opener. The Cavaliers have taken 17 of the last 19 meetings, and 21 of the last 25. In the last 18 games, Virginia has outscored Duke by nearly 20 points per game. The last time the Wahoos fell to the Blue Devils was 1999 in a double overtime thriller, two years before Al Groh arrived on grounds.
Saturday also marks the second career start for quarterback Marc Verica, who moves into the starters role permanently for the departed Peter Lalich. Verica completed 73 percent of his passes in his first start on September 13 at Connecticut.
