Virginia and Maryland renew their rivalry on Saturday, as the two teams kick off at Scott Stadium at 7:00. The Cavaliers are in search of their first ACC win, while the Terrapins aim to win their fourth straight game.
Virginia is 3-4 against Maryland under head coach Al Groh, but has won 12 of the last 16 meetings. Since 2001, they are 2-1 against the Terrapins at Scott Stadium, with the lone loss coming in 2006. In that match up, Virginia held a 20-0 lead at halftime, only to see it disappear, as the Terps won, 28-26. The two teams' battles during the past two years have been decided by a combined three points.
The Cavaliers have done well in home night games as of late. Since 2004, Virginia is 5-0 under the lights at Scott Stadium, and has won those games by an average of 18 points. Last season's home night game saw the Wahoos top Pittsburgh, 44-14.
Saturday also marks Virginia's ACC home opener. The Cavs have won six of their seven conference home openers since Al Groh arrived in 2001. Virginia topped Duke, 24-13, in its 2007 ACC home opener.
