When the Cavalier football team battles East Carolina on Saturday, it will look to Marc Verica to have another solid day. The sophomore quarterback had the best game of his young career this past weekend in Virginia's 31-0 win against Maryland.
Verica completed 25 of 34 pass attempts for 226 yards and two touchdowns, while adding a rushing touchdown as well. The two TD passes marked the first scores through the air for Virginia this season. He now ranks sixth in the ACC in passing yards per game with 144.5, and eighth in conference total offense at 141.2.
The signal caller's first two starts were anything but stellar in terms of numbers, but very valuable in terms of his progression and growth. Verica threw no touchdown passes and five interceptions during two games at Duke and Connecticut, while the Cavaliers were outscored 76-13 in those two games.
Verica now hopes to build on his accomplishments from this past Saturday. He said during Tuesday's press conference that it was very uplifting and gave him confidence, but he is by no means satisfied.
