Cavalier head coach Al Groh sat down for his weekly interview with CBS19 today, and had a lot of good things to talk about. Virginia is coming off a 35-20 win against East Carolina this past Saturday, and saw solid performances on both sides of the ball.
Coach Groh discussed the growth of his team, talking about Marc Verica and the return of Cedric Peerman at running back. Peerman rushed for 179 yards and two touchdowns in the Virginia victory. Groh praised the senior tailback, saying that he represents the team. After posting just 36 points in their first four games, the Cavaliers have exploded for 66 points in their last two contests.
The defensive side of the ball also had a good day. Clint Sintim had two sacks on the day, raising his ACC leading total to seven. The defense as a whole kept the Pirates at bay for a majority of the game, giving up only 285 total yards.
Groh and the Cavs also pulled out the trickery, scoring their final touchdown on a fake field goal. Scott Deke connected with a wide open John Phillips to slam the door on ECU.
The head coach also discussed this weekend's game against North Carolina. Groh commented on Brandon Tate's season-ending knee injury, and talked about the weapons that the Tar Heel bring to Scott Stadium
