Marc Verica's first start at Connecticut seems like more than four weeks ago. After a rough first two games under center, Verica has come alive, and has led an offensive turnaround for the Cavaliers.
After completing just 45 percent of his passes against Duke, Verica completed 25 of 35 pass attempts against Maryland. He also threw for two touchdown passes, Virginia's first passing scores of the year, and rushed for another score in the 31-0 victory. Last Saturday, the sophomore kept it going, completing 78 percent of his passes and one touchdown pass. Despite two early interceptions, Verica was able to shake it off and take control, leading Virginia to the 35-20 win.
Al Groh and the Wahoos look for more of the same this Saturday, as Virginia hosts North Carolina. Verica has completed 65.9 percent of his passes in his four starts, and that kind of efficiency is what the team hopes to see more of. Virginia and the Tar Heels kick off at 3:30pm.
