Virginia Opens Season with Win Over VMI

Sylven Landesberg scored 28 points and broke Virginia's freshman-debut scoring record, and the Cavaliers opened the season with a 107-97 win over VMI.

Mike Scott also had a big day for Virginia, scoring 26 points and pulling down 18 rebounds on the day. Three other Cavaliers also scored in double figures: Mamadi Diane, Jamil Tucker and Sammy Zeglinski. Chavis Holmes led all scorers with 31 points for the Keydets.

The Cavaliers are now 1-0 on the season. They return to action Wednesday night against South Florida. Tip-off is set for 7 pm from John Paul Jones Arena.
