The Virginia men's basketball team was unable to avenge its loss to Xavier last year, falling to the Muskateers 84-70 Saturday at John Paul Jones Arena.
Virginia got out to an early 6-0 lead on Xavier, but the Muskateers would dominate the rest of the half. Xavier went on a 23-2 run early in the first half, and led by 16 points at the break.
Xavier continued to pour it on in the second half, eventually extending the lead to 28 points. The Cavaliers would cut into the lead throughout the half, but never really got back into the game. On the plus side, Sylven Landesberg led all scorers with 25 points.
The loss drops Virginia to 6-5 on the season. The Cavaliers will close out the non-conference portion of their schedule Tuesday night against Brown, before heading to Blacksburg for an ACC matchup with rival Virginia Tech on January 10th.
