Dom Starsia and the Cavalier men's lacrosse team put the finishing touches on their preparations for Drexel on Friday, as they look forward to opening up the 2009 campaign on Saturday afternoon. Virginia enters the season ranked number one in three of the four major national polls and now faces the task of backing that ranking up.
Saturday's contest marks the season opener for Drexel, as well. This has been a series that has provided some close match ups as of late. The last time the Dragons visited Klockner Stadium to open 2007, they pulled off the upset of the Cavaliers, 11-10. Last season at Drexel, Virginia needed a late rally to go on for the 11-7 win.
Virginia is looking to start a run that ends in an eventual national championship, after falling just two wins short a season ago. The Cavaliers fell to Syracuse in overtime in the national semifinals, and look to go the entire way this year. Virginia's last national championship came in 2006.
Saturday's contests faces off at 1:00. Click on the above video link to hear Dom Starsia's thoughts on Saturday's season opener.
