The Cavalier women's lacrosse team had little trouble with Virginia Tech in the first round of the ACC Tournament, topping the Hokies, 13-5, on Thursday afternoon. Virginia moves one step closer to its fourth consecutive conference championship.
Ashley McCulloch led the way for the Wahoos with four goals and two assists, while Jenny Hauser chipped in three goals and one assist. Julie Gardner found the back of the net twice for the Cavs as well. Virginia jumped out to the 7-1 lead and never looked back, improving to 11-6 on the season.
This marks the second time that Virginia has topped its arch rival this season, as the Cavaliers topped the Hokies, 19-3, back on February 18 at Klockner Stadium. The Hokies fall to 7-10 and see their season conclude.
The victory sets up a rematch with Maryland in Friday's ACC semifinals. The Terrapins topped the Cavaliers at Klockner Stadium in the two teams' regular season match up, 17-11. Maryland is the tournament's top seed and is ranked number two in the country. Face off is set for 4:00pm.
