Peerman, Phillips Drafted on Second Day

April 26, 2009

Former Cavaliers Cedric Peerman and John Phillips were selected on the second day of the NFL draft.

Peerman was taken by the Baltimore Ravens in the 6th round (185th overall). He ran for 774 yards and seven touchdowns this past season despite missing some time with an injury. He had three 100 yard games in 2008, and finished his career with 1,749 yards and 15 touchdowns. Peerman will join a Ravens team that led the AFC in rushing in 2008.

Twenty-three picks later Phillips heard his name called by the Dallas Cowboys. Phillips was a first team All-ACC selection in 2008 after a very productive senior season. His 48 catches for 385 yards and two touchdowns were the most by a tight end in the ACC. He ended up with 67 catches for 643 yards and five touchdowns for his career.

Former Virginia Wide Receiver Kevin Ogletree chose to forego his senior season to enter the NFL draft, but was not drafted this weekend. Stay tuned to CBS 19 to see if he catches on anywhere as a rookie free agent.
