Jarrett Parker hit his 13th home run of the season and the Virginia baseball team beat in-state rival Liberty 5-2 on Tuesday night.
Virginia would get on the board first in the bottom of the 3rd when Monticello High School grad Corey Hunt singled up the middle to score Tyler Cannon. The Cavs then followed that up in the 4th when Steven Proscia hit a chopper over the shortstop's head scoring Danny Hultzen to make it 2-0 Virginia.
Liberty would respond though with runs in the top of the 5th and 6th innings to tie the game at 2. But then Parker delivered what would be the game-winning run with a solo blast to center in the bottom of the 6th. The Cavaliers then got some insurance runs later in the inning when John Hicks hit a two-run single into center field.
Matt Packer gets the win for Virginia after going 6.1 innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out one. The Cavaliers are back in action on Friday May 8th when they open up a three game ACC series with Duke at Davenport Field.
