Running back Keith Payne was not at Virginia's first practice of fall training camp Monday. Over the summer, Payne was not permitted to participate with the Cavs by Virginia Head Coach Al Groh for academic reasons. Monday night, Groh declined comment on Payne's situation.
The redshirt freshman was expected to compete for Cedric Peerman's backup spot with Mikell Simpson and Raynard Horne.
