Another of Tom O'Brien's former lieutenants at NC State has been added to Mike London's defensive staff at Virginia.
On Thursday morning, UVa announced the addition of Mike Archer to the coaching staff as a defensive assistant. According to the release, Archer's specific duties will be announced at a later date.
Archer has spent almost 40 years coaching at the college and NFL levels, including a previous stint at UVa as linebackers coach under George Welsh in 1991 and 1992. He served as defensive coordinator for all six of O'Brien's seasons as head coach at NC State, until O'Brien was fired after the 2012 season.
O'Brien is entering his second season as an offensive assistant on London's staff. Archer is also reunited with UVa defensive coordinator Jon Tenuta, who spent three seasons on O'Brien's staff at NC State.
Archer's coaching resume also includes four years as head coach at LSU (1987-90), and six seasons (1996-02) as linebackers coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
