Wednesday night at John Paul Jones Arena, Tony Bennett will once again be coaching against one of his former teams, when the Cavaliers host the 8th-ranked Wisconsin Badgers in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.
Bennett spent two years as an assistant under Wisconsin head coach Bo Ryan in the in the early 2000s.
"You have so many friends and family back there, and you want to do well," Bennett says of facing his former team.
"I have such respect for coach Ryan and what that program has done. When you have a chance to be successful against a program like that, it means a lot for you. But with this year, there's so many games against quality opponents, and I think you make a mistake if you put too much weight on one game and not another. You've just got to be ready."
The Badgers will be the second ranked team the 'Hoos have hosted this season. UVa fell to 59-56 No.14 VCU on Nov. 12.
This will be the second straight year UVa and Wisconsin have matched up in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. The Cavaliers beat the Badgers 60-54 last season in Madison.
"I think playing in this, it's a great challenge because the Big Ten is an excellent league, and obviously being from the ACC we think the ACC is the certainly the best league in college basketball," Bennett said Monday. "You have to be ready for that."
