Bennett Hopes Hall Can Benefit from Redshirt Year

Tony Bennett points to Mike Scott and Malcolm Brogdon as two recent examples of players who benefited greatly from redshirt seasons at Virginia.

And Bennett hopes he can one day add guard Devon Hall to that list.

"Devon hasn't competed yet. So he's really using this to get extra reps," Bennett said of the freshman guard.

Hall and fellow guard London Perrantes arrived at UVa last summer, and the decision was made in November for Hall to sit this season. Bennett says the extra year will give Hall an opportunity to develop and get more assertive in practice, as well as extra time with strength coach Mike Curtis.

"When he runs the scout team, he can really be aggressive and assertive," Bennett said. "Doesn't have to worry, kind of free his mind up. If he's turning the ball over or not making his shots, it's all right. Just keep being aggressive."

"All those things are real important," Bennett added. "And he's got a wonderful attitude."
