Virginia infielder Stephen Bruno has been named the ACC Player of the Week.
Bruno went 6-for-15 (.400) with two home runs and eight RBI in four games and had hits and RBI in each contest as Virginia went 3-1 on the week, including a series win over Georgia Tech.
Bruno is the first Cavalier to earn ACC Player of the Week honors this year and the first since Steven Proscia claimed the distinction on April 18, 2011. Branden Kline was named the conference's Pitcher of the Week on March 26.
After delivering a two-run double in the Wednesday non-conference win over High Point, he went 4-for-10 in the Georgia Tech series. On Friday Bruno recorded his first career multi-home run game with a pair of blasts in Virginia's 6-5 win over the Yellow Jackets. He also drove in three runs.
Bruno added a pair of RBI in the Cavaliers' 4-2 victory Saturday to clinch their third-consecutive ACC series win. Bruno went 1-for-3 with an RBI single in UVa's 5-4, 10-inning loss Sunday.
Bruno leads the team and ranks fifth in the ACC with a .365 batting average, including a conference-best .371 average in ACC games. Bruno owns six home runs and 47 RBI and ranks among the league leaders in RBI (third), hits (fourth, 72), total bases (sixth, 111), doubles (seventh, 17) and slugging percentage (ninth, .563).
