Virginia could be without one of its freshman playmakers on defense when the Cavaliers host North Carolina on Thursday.
The school released its pregame medical report for Thursday's game on Tuesday. It included freshman cornerback Maurice Canady, listed as "doubtful" because of an undisclosed medical issue.
Canady has appeared in all 10 games for the Cavaliers as a true freshman this season. He's won back-to-back ACC co-defensive back of the week awards over the past two weeks, the first two starts of his career.
Canady has a team-high two interceptions this season, as well as 24 tackles and a pair of pass break-ups. He forced and recovered a fumble in last Saturday's win against Miami. Sophomore Drequan Hoskey -- the Cavaliers' starter opposite Tra' Nicholson for the first eight games of the season -- would likely replace Canady if the freshman can't play on Thursday.
