Cavalier Freshmen Settling In

London Perrantes and Devon Hall make up the smallest Virginia basketball recruiting class of the Tony Bennet era. The two freshman point guards might be battling for time later this year, but during the summer, they're spending time getting to know their teammates and each other.

Both first years say the UVa coaching staff was the main reason they wanted to be Cavaliers.

"Being able to come in with some genuine players and some genuine coaches is something that I was looking forward to, and I feel like this is the right place for that," Perrantes says of his motivation for choosing UVa.

Head coach Tony Bennett is an assistant coach for the USA Basketball U19 World Championship for part of the summer, so the freshmen are getting a big part of their introduction to UVa basketball from the rest of Bennett's staff.

"We've built the same bonds with Coach Bennett as well as we've built the same with the coaches here now," said Hall. "They all have the same ideas, same motive."

The bonds they're building have become even stronger, since Perrantes and Hall are the only two members of their incoming class, something that both players enjoy.

"There's not too many of us, and a lot of teaching is to only to two of us, so it's a lot easier and they focus more on us," Perrantes said. "I think that's a perk of having a two-man recruiting class."

"It's not bad at all actually," Hall says of being one of only two first years. "It's easier to bond with just one guy instead of having to bond with five or six guys."

There's been plenty of bonding between Hall and Perrantes, since the two are also roommates. With all the time they've been spending together, they've really gotten to know each other on the court and off the court.

"He can shoot," Hall said, discussing Perrantes' skills on the floor. "He's smooth on the court."

Perrantes says Hall is both serious and light-hearted. "He's definitely a leader, the way he holds himself. He's definitely going to help us.

"Once you get to know him and once he gets comfortable, he's probably one of the funniest kids you'll ever meet."
