Virginia got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning after an RBI double from Downes scored Jared King. Keith Werman batted in Downes on a sacrifice bunt to give UVa a 2-0 lead.

The Cavaliers used a seven-run fifth inning to secure the victory, capped off by Taylor's three run blast to left center field. His home run came after hits from Mike Papi and Downes bounced off the outfield walls. 11 Cavaliers batted in the inning, pushing their lead to 9-0.
