The fourth-ranked Virginia men’s tennis team extended its win streak to eight matches with a 7-0 victory on the road over No. 64 Georgia Tech Saturday.
The Cavaliers improve to 17-2 this season and 8-0 in the ACC. They remain the only team undefeated in conference play this season, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 7-11 overall and 1-7 in the conference.
The Cavaliers took an early lead by winning the doubles point. Thai-Son Kwiatkowski and Jordan Daigle topped Will Showers and Colin Edwards 8-2 at No. 3 doubles. The opening point was clinched at No. 1 where Mitchell Frank and Justin Shane teamed for the first time and downed No. 23 Eduardo Segura and Carlos Benito 8-4. Alex Domijan and Harrison Richmond completed the sweep with an 8-5 win at No. 2 over Nathan Rakitt and Cole Fiegel.
Virginia won all six matches in straight sets. Justin Shane was first off the courts, posting a 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 over Showers. Daigle followed with his 6-2, 6-2 victory over Edwards at the No. 6 position. Ryan Shane clinched the win when he topped Fiegel 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.
The Cavaliers will return home next week for their final two regular season matches at the Snyder Tennis Center. Virginia will host NC State on April 11 and Wake Forest on April 13.
