For the first time in four years, the Virginia football team has received votes in the preseason USA Today college football coaches' poll.
The Cavaliers received nine votes in the 2012 preseason poll, released Thursday. It's the first time the Cavaliers received preseason votes in the coaches' poll since 2008. Virginia hasn't started a season ranked in the coaches' poll since 2005, when the Cavaliers opened the year ranked 23rd.
Mike London's team opens preseason camp on Monday. The Cavaliers are coming off an 8-5 season in 2011 that included a trip to the Chick-fil-A Bowl. It was the first winning record and bowl trip for the program since the 2007 season.
Three ACC programs cracked the 2012 preseason coaches' poll. Florida State -- the preseason pick to win the conference -- was ranked seventh, followed by Clemson at No. 14 and Virginia Tech at No. 20.
LSU was the preseason No. 1 team in the poll, followed by defending BCS national champion Alabama and USC. Oklahoma and Oregon rounded out the top five.
