Cavaliers Turning Up Intensity in Fall Camp

Ask any Virginia football player, and they'll tell you that one of the biggest differences from last year to this year is the team's unity. The Cavaliers insist that the team grew closer during the offseason, after finishing 2-10 in 2013. But that doesn't mean they've been taking it easy when they go up against one another on the field during training camp.

"Those defensive guys are out there flying around, and that's a good thing, that intensity level," said senior running back Kevin Parks. "That's how it'll be in the game, so you want guys out there flying around and you want to be able to match their intensity."

The Cavaliers are nearing the end of their first week of fall camp. They held their first scrimmage of the week on Saturday, which also marked the start of two-a-days.

"You have to have that edge and show that passion to make everyone else better," said junior defensive end Eli Harold. "You just lay it all out on the line. That's what I try to do every play, whether I've got to smack a guy in the face to get him right, because I'm going to need you to get me right."

As practices continue, the 'Hoos are getting closer to their season opener against UCLA on Aug. 30. Linebacker Henry says the Cavs plan to keep up the intensity in practice over the next few weeks, as they get ready to face the Bruins.

"You get the best out of guys, you know. A lot of guys are chippy or whatnot, you just get the best out of guys."
