Cavaliers Rally to Beat VCU at The Diamond

Freshman Derek Fisher's two-run homer in the top of the ninth was the difference, as the Virginia baseball team rallied for a 7-5 win over Virginia Commonwealth at The Diamond on Wednesday night.

The Cavaliers were down to their final two outs, before Stephen Bruno tied the game at five with an RBI double that scored Chris Taylor. After a pitching change, Fisher followed with his go-ahead home run.

A night after his 13-game hitting streak ended, Bruno finished 3-4 for Virginia. Fisher finished 1-4, with a team-high three RBI.

Virginia had a 4-2 lead in the sixth, until the Rams used a three-run inning to move in front 5-4. Both teams were scoreless until the Cavaliers' three-run rally in the ninth.

The win was Brian O'Connor's 400th as head coach of the Cavaliers.
