Cavaliers Trounce Towson With 19-Run Outburst

Virginia pounded out 19 hits in a 19-5 win over Towson Wednesday at Davenport Field. Every Cavalier starter had a hit, led by Freshman Derek Fisher, who had four hits and seven RBI, including a first-inning grand slam.

Virginia scored eight runs total in the first frame, highlighted by Fisher's grand slam.

Nick Howard picked up the win on the mound, tossing 4.1 innings, with two earned runs and four strikeouts. He relieved start Barrett O'Neill, who went 1.2 innings and gave up three earned.

Mitchell Shifflett and Chris Taylor also had three hits for Virginia. Shifflett had a pair of RBI and Taylor scored three runs. Senior Jared King reached base four times and scored four runs.

Virginia (17-8-1) visits North Carolina State this weekend. The Cavaliers have now won six straight.
