Cavs Enter Camp With More Focus on Unity

The summer came to an unofficial end for the Virginia football team on Monday night as the Cavaliers opened up fall camp under the lights at the McCue Center.

The offseason provided a chance for the 'Hoos to reset after a 2-10 season in 2013, one of the worst for the program in decades. But at camp on Monday, the players agreed that the biggest changes weren't made on the football field.

"I think the whole team has just kind of gathered around the sense of unity," said sophomore quarterback Greyson Lambert. "Having cookouts, going to Kings Dominion, I know some of the guys did that. Just trying to hang out with the guys more so off the field, and building that camaraderie between the team."

"We've all worked on team unity," said senior wide receiver Miles Gooch. "Not just with the players, but we're all building relationships with the coaches as well. I think that's one thing we've really been working on. If there's any change, I think that's huge. The unity between the coaching staff and the players is getting there."

The upcoming season will likely decide the future of head coach Mike London, who says camp is a fresh start that his team is ready for.

"The players are excited again about their opportunities to get on the field and perform. It's been a while since we've had the chance to be on the field with everything on the line here, so we're excited about the opportunity it presents to see new guys in new positions and see us improve and perform."
