Cavs Fall to Tulane in Overtime

The UVa women's basketball team overcame a 20 point deficit to force overtime, but ultimately fell 79-72 to Tulane in overtime on Friday night. The Cavaliers and Green Wave met in the first game of the FGCU Hilton Garden Inn/Homewood Suites Classic.

Tulane dominated much of the first half, opening up a 37-17 lead with 2:33 left to play in the half. From there, UVa went on an 11-2 run to cut the lead to 39-28 at halftime.

The Cavaliers scored the first 8 points of the second half and took a 44-41 lead on a three-point play by senior guard Ataira Franklin with 16:38 to play in the game. Tulane regained the lead before UVa was able to come back and force overtime.

The Green Wave opened the overtime period on a 6-0 run and never trailed again, winning 79-72.

Franklin led UVa with 22 points, while fellow senior Lexie Gerson added 18 on 7-for-10 shooting, including 4-of-5 from three point range. Sarah Imovbioh finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
