Cavs' Season Ends with Loss to BC

The season is over for the banged-up Virginia women's basketball team, following Thursday night's loss to Boston College in the opening round of the ACC Tournament.

The Eagles pulled away in the final minute to beat the No. 6 seed Cavaliers 66-57, dropping Virginia to 16-14 on the season. Following the game, citing the injuries that wrecked her team down the stretch of the season, Virginia coach Joanne Boyle said the Cavaliers would turn down a bid to the Women's NIT if offered.

Virginia trailed by as many as 13 points early in the second half, before using an 18-3 run to move in front. A three-pointer from Ataira Franklin gave the Cavaliers a 42-40 lead with 10:37 to play, but Virginia would only manage one more lead from that point on.

Franklin, an All-ACC first team selection earlier this week, finished with a game-high 17 points for Virginia. Freshman Faith Randolph (14 points) was the only other Cavalier to score in double figures.

Four of Boston College's five starters finished the game with double figure points. With the win, the No. 11 seed Eagles advanced to face No. 3 seed North Carolina on Friday.
