Cavs Beat Marist for 10th Win of Season

Virginia worked quickly to erase an early 4-1 hole Tuesday evening against Marist, and went on to beat the Red Foxes 8-5 at Davenport Field.

After Marist scored four times in the top of the second to take a 4-1 lead, the Cavaliers came right back with two-run hits from Chris Taylor and Stephen Bruno in the bottom of the inning to retake the lead 5-4.

Freshman Derek Fisher connected for his first career home run in the third, and Reed Gragnani added RBI singles in the fourth and sixth to extend the Virginia lead.

Taylor and Keith Werman finished the game with three hits apiece for the Cavaliers, who picked up their 10th win of the season. Colin Harrington, Fisher, and Gragnani finished with a pair of hits apiece.

Branden Kline (3-2) picked up the win for the Cavaliers after giving up five runs (two earned) on eight hits in six innings. Justin Thompson picked up his second save after coming in with one out and the bases loaded in the top of the ninth, and escaping unscathed.
