The Virginia baseball team (20-10-1, 7-6 ACC) won their 12th straight game at Davenport Field on Saturday afternoon, a 9-4 victory over Wake Forest (19-12, 5-8). Freshman outfielder Derek Fisher had two hits and three RBI in the win, including his eighth triple of the season which ties a UVa record (Jarrett Parker, 2010).
Senior Branden Kline gave up three first-inning runs before allowing just two hits the rest of the way. He threw 7.0 innings and allowed five hits and three walks, while striking out eight to earn the win. Kline retired nine straight batters from the second to fifth innings and 17 of the final 19 batters he faced.
Stephen Bruno and Nick Howard each added three hits for Virginia.
Virginia trailed 3-0 in the bottom of the first inning when Chris Taylor belted his fourth home run of the season to put UVa on the board, down 3-1. The Cavaliers took the lead in the second inning capped off by a RBI single from Bruno to make it 4-3.
UVa added three more runs in the sixth, two of those on Fisher's triple to right-center, giving UVa a 7-3 lead.
Wake Forest and Virginia meet for game 2 on Sunday at 1 p.m. Game 3 will be televised by ESPN3 on Monday night at 7 p.m.
