Confident Cavs Head for Greensboro Early

With an incoming winter storm expected to hit Charlottesville late Tuesday and Wednesday, the Virginia women's basketball team had to make a last-minute change to their ACC tournament travel plans.

The Cavaliers headed to Greensboro Tuesday evening, instead of practicing and leaving Wednesday as originally planned.

UVa, seeded 6th, will face 11th-seeded Boston College Thursday at the Greensboro Coliseum at 8 p.m.

After breaking their 5-game losing streak with a 72-60 win over No. 24 Florida State on Sunday, the 'Hoos are bringing a renewed sense of confidence to Greensboro with them.

"I think the general morale of the team is just different," said junior guard Ataira Franklin. "We're a lot more excited and a lot more passionate, knowing that we really have an opportunity to come out and make a statement, make a run, and knowing that we can play with the top teams in the ACC despite limited numbers. So it definitely gives us a lot of confidence."

Head coach Joanne Boyle said the win on Sunday was both a great send-off for the UVa seniors and a good way to enter the tournament.

"To come out and just put a really fun, full, 40-minute game together for us, it's going to give us some momentum going into the tournament."

The Cavaliers three seniors - China Crosby, Simone Egwu, and Telia McCall - already got the win on senior day, and are now looking to close out their ACC careers with a strong finish.

"It makes us a little bit more happy a little bit more relaxed that we got a win and snapped that losing streak," said Crosby. "We're just excited about going down there and trying to make a statement. You know, ACC tournament, it's my last one, it's Simone's last one and [Telia's] last one, so we're all trying to go out there with a bang."
