Crockett Selected by Cleveland in Fourth Round of MLB Draft

Virginia junior pitcher Kyle Crockett was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the fourth round, as the 111th overall pick of the Major League Baseball draft on Friday.

"It's awesome," said Crockett. "I'm ecstatic. It hasn't really kicked in yet, with all the emotions and everything yet. But once I start talking to my family, you know I think I'll be more electric with it."

The UVa closer becomes the 27th Cavalier taken in the MLB draft over the past five years.

"Kyle Crockett is the most devastating pitcher I've ever faced," said UVa sophomore Derek Fisher. "I hate facing him at all costs. I just kind of feel bad for guys that face him in a game because it's the first time these guys have seen him. I've seen him for two years and I still can't hit him."

Crockett enters this weekend's NCAA super regional with a 4-1 record, a 1.68 ERA and 12 saves on the season. Last weekend he was named Most Outstanding Player of the Charlottesville Regional after picking up a pair of two-inning saves, giving up no runs and striking out seven.

"He's so good, he's so talented, a lot of deception to his delivery," senior Reed Gragnani said. "He's a great kid, and you know it couldn't have happened to a better person."
