In a match-up of Cavaliers past and present, former Virginia tennis player Somdev Devvarman topped rising sophomore Ryan Shane in the Mid-Atlantic Clay Court Championship at Salisbury Country Club.
The top-ranked Devvarman beat Shane 6-2, 6-0 in the final match Sunday. Devvarman is currently ranked No. 131 in the ATP singles rankings.
Shane recently finished his freshman season with the Cavaliers, and was a member of the team that brought home UVa's first ever NCAA Championship. Shane finished with a 20-6 record, and ranked as high as No. 22 nationally in singles, ending the year at No. 70.
