Virginia junior Alex Domijan won the singles title at the 2012 ITA All-American Championships, downing Peter Kobelt of Ohio State 7-5, 6-1 in Sunday’s final at the Case Tennis Center. Domijan, who also won the event as a freshman in 2010, becomes just the third player in the 34-year history of the event to win the fall’s most prestigious tournament twice.

Domijan, the No. 6 seed in this year’s tournament, dropped just one set in his six victories. He joins Al Parker of Georgia (1989, 1990) and K.J. Hippensteel of Stanford (1999, 2001) as the only two-time ITA All-American Singles Champions. Domijan’s two titles, combined with Mitchell Frank’s title last year, make Virginia the first school to win the event three consecutive years.

Domijan is unbeaten in his career at the ITA All-American Championships, winning the title in both his appearances. He missed last year’s event due to injury.

“I thought this tournament was a good start to the season,” said Domijan. “I was pleased with how I played, in terms of being aggressive and making shots. I accomplished what I wanted to in this tournament in terms of my level of play, and that makes me happier than having a title next to my name. I can now look to build upon this level as the season goes along.”

In doubles final, the Auburn team of Dan Cochrane and Andy Mies downed the Cavalier pair of Jarmere Jenkins and Mac Styslinger, 7-6(6), 6-2. The Tiger duo saved a pair of set points in the first set breaker before using that momentum to take the second set.
