Virginia women’s soccer junior forward Makenzy Doniak has been named the United States’ squad for next month’s FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Canada. Doniak was one of 21 players selected to the team, which looks to defend the Americans’ title at the event.
Doniak was a first-team NSCAA All-American last year, leading the ACC with 20 goals and 46 points. A 2013 MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist, Doniak has scored 30 goals and has 14 assists in her two years at Virginia.
The American squad is led by head coach Michelle French. One of her assistants at the tournament will be Virginia assistant Jaime Frias.
The 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup will be held August 5-24 in Canada. The United States are the reigning FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup champions, having won the title in 2012 in Japan. That team, led by Virginia head coach Steve Swanson, featured senior midfielder Morgan Brian.
